This European Standard has been prepared after a revision of EN 15132-2:2007 into which the requirements of CR RST TSI have been incorporated. This European Standard defines warning horn requirements which deliver the required audibility of approaching trains, including high speed and conventional rail and excluding road, metro and self-contained systems. For this purpose, the following requirements are included: - functional and technical requirements of the warning horn as a component, - functional and technical requirements of the integration of warning horns into the vehicle, and - test requirements. Operational requirements for warning horns have been excluded and the requirements for the control of warning horns can be found in prEN 16186-1. Warning horns serve for the security of railway operations. In order to comply with the various requirements in Europe, the standard specifies four versions of permissible warning horn notes as well as a uniform test method. The standard supports Essential Requirements of Directive 2008/57/EC on the interoperability of the rail system within the Community as well as the associated Technical Specifications (TSI). This European Standard has been revised by Working Group WG 9 "Lighting" of CEN/TC 256 "Railway applications". In the revision, the standard has been updated to take account of new editions of the underlying laws and regulations. Furthermore the used signal frequencies have been harmonized with those commonly used in Europe and widely associated with a warning signal by the general public. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 001-01-05-01 UA "Spurgebundene Fahrzeuge - Kenngrößen" ("Rail vehicles - Characteristics") at DIN.
