This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of the EC Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with such requirements. Once this standard is designated a harmonized standard in the Official Journal of the European Communities, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (the so-called presumption of conformity). This standard applies to clipping machines. This standard deals with safety and hygiene requirements to minimise the hazards which can arise during the commissioning, use and maintenance of clipping machines for portioning and closing of casings filled with foodstuffs, and intended to be used in butcheries, meat processing factories, commercial kitchens and other food processing factories. This standard deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant to clipping machines when they are used as intended and under conditions of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer (see clause 4). This document is not applicable to clipping machines which were manufactured before this document was published by CEN.
