This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with these requirements. Once this standard is designated a harmonized standard in the Official Journal of the European Union, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (the so-called presumption of conformity). This document covers cube cutting machines (see Figure 1 to Figure 6 and Figure 12 to Figure 18). This European Standard specifies requirements for the design and manufacture of cube cutting machines. The machines covered by this European Standard are used to size reduce fresh meat, meat products and products of the same kind (for example, fish, vegetables and cheese) by cutting in a cutting chamber. This European Standard deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant to machines, appliances and machinery, when they are used as intended and under conditions of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer. This European Standard deals with the hazards which can arise during all the lifetime of the machine, including the phases of transport, assembly, operation, maintenance, dismantling, disabling and scrapping of the machine. This document is not applicable to cube cutting machines which were manufactured before this document was published by CEN. This European Standard covers the following types of cubes cutting machines: - cubes cutting machines with a forward feed plunger, a lattice and a sickle/multi-segment blade with loading by hand; - cubes cutting machines with a forward feed plunger, a lattice, a sickle/multi-segment blade, a feed intake hopper and a loading device; - cubes cutting machines with a rotating cutting tool, a sickle/multi-segment blade and a feed conveyor; - cubes cutting machines with a rotating cutting tool and centrifugal force loading; - cubes cutting machines with or without integrated conveyor systems. Cubes cutting machines are constructed of a machine frame, a feed intake chamber/magazine, a forward feed plunger or nip roller, a lattice or a rotating cutting tool, a sickle/multi-segment blade, an associated drive and electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic components, depending on machine type. Cubes cutting machines in the scope of this European Standard may be equipped with: - a lid over the feed intake chamber/magazine; - a transfer car for the sickle /multi-segment blade, cutting blade and lattice; - a loading device; - a feed conveyor. The product to be cut is fed manually or by the loading device/feed conveyor into the feed intake chamber. The product is fed to the cutting unit by the forward feed plunger and/or by the nip roller or by centrifugal force and size reduced. This standard contains the German version of EN 13871:2014 prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 153 "Machinery intended for use with foodstuffs and feed" within the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). This standard differs from DIN EN 13871:2011-02 as follows: a) Clause 1: the scope has been clarified; b) Clause 2: normative references have been updated; c) Clause 3: terms and definitions have been partly revised and are consistently used throughout the standard; d) Clause 4: new presentation in a table; e) 5.2.1: requirements for interlocking devices and the stopping time; more specific requirements for product stoppers, protective strips and blade guide ; f) 5.2.2.2: requirements for blade housing and blade guard; g) Clause 6: the verification list has been updated; h) Clause 7: completion of 7.2 with all information referred to in Clause 5, now including the operator training; Subclause 7.3 now contains the marking; i) annexes: the former Annex C "Common hazard" has been deleted and the text has been transferred to the appropriate clauses; j) figures have been partly revised; k) inclusion of an informative Annex ZA on the relationship between this European Standard and the Essential Requirements of EU Directive 2006/42/EC. The national interests during the preparation of this standard were represented by Working Committee NA 060-18-02 AA "Fleischverarbeitungsmaschinen" ("Meat processing machinery") of Technical Section "Food Processing Machinery" at DIN Standards Committee Mechanical Engineering (NAM). Representatives of the manufacturers and users of meat processing machinery as well as representatives of the employers' liability insurance associations contributed to this standard.
This document replaces DIN EN 13871:2011-02 .
