Overview

This standard contains the requirements for the manufacture and type testing of swage terminals and fitting such terminations to steel wire ropes made of non-alloy and stainless steel wire by a swaging method. The standard takes into account the swaged terminations with an efficiency factor of at least 0,9. The standard comprises the following types of terminations manufactured from non-alloy and stainless steel wire: - fork terminal - eye terminal - steel fitting with thread - end fitting. The standard deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events when used as intended and under conditions of misuse which are reasonable foreseeable by the manufacturer. The significant hazards covered by this European Standard are identified in clause 4. Clause 5 of the standard covers safety requirements. The European Standard (FprEN 13411-8:2011) has been prepared by CEN/TC 168 "Chains, ropes, webbing, slings and accessories - Safety", the secretariat of which is held by BSI (United Kingdom). The responsible national Mirror Committee is Working Committee NA 099-00-04 AA "Drahtseile, Seil-Endverbindungen und Anschlagseile" ("Steel wire ropes, wire terminations and wire rope slings") of the Steel Wire and Wire Products Standards Committee (NAD).
