This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of the EC Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to lifting platforms intended for use by persons with impaired mobility which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with such requirements. Once this standard is designated a harmonized standard in the Official Journal of the European Communities, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (the so-called presumption of conformity). This standard describes safety requirements for design, construction, operation, adjustment, setting, cleaning and maintenance of - splitting machines for limed hides and skins, wet blue and dry materials, - bandknife shearing machines used in the splitting and shearing of leather and synthetic materials. This standard takes account of intended use, foreseeable misuse, possible component and systems failure. These machines are for fixed installation. This document is not applicable to the splitting and bandknife shearing machines which are manufactured before the date of publication of this standard. All the significant hazards listed in clause 4 are safeguarded by the requirements included in clause 5 except dust and fire. For these hazards general guidelines are proposed in normative Annex A. Designers and manufacturers shall verify directly that the methods adopted to reduce these hazards have been successful. This standard does not establish any requirements for electromagnetic disturbances. Directive 94/9/EC concerning equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres can be applicable to the type of machine or equipment covered by this European Standard. The present standard does not necessarily comply with Directive 94/9/EC. Additional safety requirements in a future revision of this standard can be necessary to satisfy Directive 94/9/EC. This standard contains the German version of EN 13112:2002+A1:2010 which has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 200 "Tannery machinery - Safety-dormant". With respect to DIN EN 13112:2002, the following amendments have been made: a) modification of the foreword; b) modification of the introduction; c) modification of clause 1, Scope; d) update of clause 2, Normative references; e) modification of clause 3, Terms and definitions; f) modification of clause 4, List of hazards; g) modification of clause 5, Safety requirements and/or protective measures; h) modification of clause 6, Verification of safety requirements and/or protective measures; i) modification of clause 7, Information for use; j) modification of Annex ZA, Relationship between this European Standard and the essential requirements of EU Directive 98/37/EC; k) inclusion of Annex ZB, Relationship between this European Standard and the essential requirements of EU Directive 2006/42/EC. The national interests during the preparation of the standard were represented by Committee NA 060-26-69-02 AK "Lederherstellungs- und Pelzmaschinen" ("Machines for the manufacture of leather and fur") of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) at DIN. The preparation of the standard was carried out without German collaboration due to lacking representatives; the standard was prepared purely formally.
This document replaces DIN EN 13112:2003-01 .
