Overview

This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with these requirements. This European Standard shall be used together with the standard EN 13001-1 and EN 13001-3, and as such it specifies general conditions, requirements and methods to prevent mechanical hazards of wire ropes of cranes by design and theoretical verification. Specific requirements for particular types of crane are given in the appropriate European Standard for the particular crane type. This document contains a list of significant hazardous situations and hazardous events that could result in risks to persons during normal use and foreseeable misuse (of the cranes). Clauses 5 to 6 of this standard are necessary to reduce or eliminate risks associated with the following hazard: - exceeding the limits of strength (yield, ultimate, fatigue). This European Standard is applicable to cranes that are manufactured after the date of approval of this standard by CEN and is intended to be used as reference for the European Standards for special types of cranes (see Annex C). FprEN 13001-3-2 includes only the limit state method in accordance with EN 13001-1. This standard includes the German version of FprEN 13001-3-2:2014 which has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 147 "Cranes - Safety" at the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). In respect to DIN CEN/TS 13001-3-2:2009-05, the following modifications have been made: a) 4.2, "Stationary ropes" is new; b) 5.5, "Documentation" is new; c) 6.4.6, "Multilayer drum" has been revised and factor ff5 newly introduced (Table 7); d) 6.5, "Maximum number of bendings" newly introduced; e) Annex A, Table A.2, modification of Figure bending w = 1; f) Annex B revised (column 4); g) introduction of an informative Annex ZA on the relationship between this European Standard and the Essential Requirements of Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. The national interests during the preparation are represented by Steering Committee NA 060-22-10 AA "Lenkungsausschuss Krane und Hebezeuge" ("Steering Committee cranes and lifting devices") and Working Committee NA 060-22-10-21 AA "Konstruktion - Allgemein" ("Construction - General") at the department "Fördertechnik" ("Conveyor technology") of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) at DIN. Representatives of manufacturers and users of cranes and lifting devices, and of employers' liability insurance associations have been involved in the preparation.
