Overview

This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of the new EC Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with such requirements. Once this standard is designated a harmonized standard in the Official Journal of the European Communities, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (the so-called presumption of conformity). This standard specifies the safety and hygiene requirements for the design and manufacture of beam mixers. Beam mixers are used in the catering industry for the preparation of mixtures and emulsions, such as puree, mayonnaise, sauces, soups, compotes, and various mixtures, directly in the cooking pan. This standard deals with the hazards which can arise during commissioning, operation, cleaning, removal of food blockages, feeding, changing the tools, maintenance and decommissioning of the machine. This European standard does not apply to: - domestic machines; - portable hand-held blenders and whisks which are covered by a specific standard (see EN 12853). This European Standard deals with significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant to beam mixers, when they are used as intended and under conditions of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer (see clause 4). This European standard does not deal with the vibration hazard. This European Standard is not applicable to beam mixers which were manufactured before the date of its publication as an EN. This standard contains the German version of EN 12854:2003+A1:2010 which has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 153 "Machinery intended for use with foodstuffs and feed" of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). The following changes have been made with respect to DIN EN 12854:2003: a) The standard has been changed and adapted with respect to the new Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC; b) An informative Annex ZB on the relationship between this European Standard and the Essential Requirements of Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC has been added. The national interests during the preparation of the standard were represented by Committee NA 060-18-04 AA "Großküchenmaschinen" ("Catering equipment") of Technical Section "Food Processing Machinery" of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) at DIN. Representatives of the interested parties were involved in the preparation of this standard.
