This European Standard specifies characteristic values for use in designing structures incorporating wood-based panels. The characteristic values given are to be used in accordance with DIN EN 1995-1-1. The characteristic values are based on a classification system given in DIN EN 636 on plywood specifications. The standard includes the characteristic values of the mechanical properties for plywood complying with DIN EN 636 in bending, tension, compression, panel shear and planar shear. For shear properties, fixed values determined by correlation to density are provided. The standard applies to panels which have 5 layers or more and 6 mm overall thickness and more, where the ratio of the cumulative thickness of veneers in alternate directions does not exceed 2,5, and for wood species with a mean density greater than 350 kg/m3 and not exceeding 750 kg/m3. This range of density corresponds to data used to determine the correlation between these shear properties and density. With respect to DIN EN 12369-2:2004-05, the scope has been limited. Where no values were available, it provides, for tension and compression, strength and stiffness values derived from bending classes in each direction and taking the surface appearance class into account. It gives relevant values for shear properties in relation to the density of the wood species in the panel. The characteristic value of the density is determined by using the results of Factory Production Control. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 042-02-15 AA "Holzwerkstoffe - Spiegelausschuss zu CEN/TC 112 und ISO/TC 89" ("Wood-based panels - Mirror Committee of CEN/TC 112 and ISO/TC 89") at DIN.
This document replaces DIN EN 12369-2:2004-05 .
