This European Standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with these requirements. Once this standard is designated a harmonized standard in the Official Journal of the European Union, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (the so-called "presumption of conformity"). This European Standard applies to the design, construction, equipping, marking and testing of air locks as defined in 3.3 including pressure bulkheads as defined in 3.4, which are to be used in tunnelling work. An oxygen breathing system used to provide the breathing supply necessary to conduct a safe decompression is also covered by this standard. This European Standard is not applicable to machinery and equipment which is manufactured before the date of publication of this document by CEN. Air locks can be connected to tunnelling machinery. This standard can help the design of air locks and bulkheads in other compressed air work in construction. This European Standard deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant to such machinery when they are used as intended and under conditions of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer (see Clause 4). This European Standard does not cover the supply of services to the air lock. Vibration, noise and EMC (Electromagnetic compatibility) hazards are not significant hazards for air locks. This European Standard does not cover the hazards due to the mobility of the machinery. This standard contains the German version of EN 12110:2014, which has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 151 "Construction equipment and building material machines - Safety" at the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). The following modifications have been made with respect to DIN EN 12110:2010-11: a) update of the normative references; b) the terms in Clause 3 and the list of significant hazards in Clause 4 have been revised; c) the safety requirements in Clauses 5 and 6 as well as the information for use in Clause 7 have been revised; d) informative Annex ZA on the Relationship between this European Standard and the Essential Requirements of Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC has been updated. The national interests during the preparation were represented by Working Committee NA 060-13-04 AA "Tunnelbaumaschinen" ("Tunnelling machines") of the Standards Committee Mechanical Engineering (NAM) at DIN. Representatives of manufacturers and users of tunnelling machines, as well as representatives of professional and trade associations are involved in the preparation of the standard.
This document replaces DIN EN 12110:2010-02 .
