Overview

This type C standard contains safety requirements. It contains the German version of EN 1010-4:2004+A1:2009 which has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 198 "Printing and paper machinery - Safety" of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). The secretariat is held by DIN (Germany). During the preparation of the standard, the national interests were represented by Working Committee NA 060-23-01 "Druck- und Papiermaschinen" ("Printing and paper machinery"), Technical Section "Printing and paper machinery" of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) at DIN. Manufacturers' representatives and representatives the German trade association for printing and paper processing were involved in the preparation of the standard. The amendment of the EC Machinery Directive necessitated a revision of the current standard EN 1010-4:2004 regarding the essential requirements of the new EC Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. This European Standard defines relevant requirements of Annex I of the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, for bookbinding, paper converting and finishing machines which were placed on the market in the EEA for the first time, in order to facilitate the verification of the conformity with these requirements. Once it is cited in the Official Journal of the European Communities, it is deemed a harmonized standard, and thus a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive covered by this standard (so called presumption of conformity). This European standard shall be used together with EN 1010-1:2004+A1:2010. Both parts together deal with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant to the following bookbinding, paper converting and paper finishing machines when they are used as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer (see clause 4). The standard applies to: - bookbinding machines: - stitching, riveting, eyeletting and attaching machines; - gang stitchers; - gathering machines; - perfect binders; - paper drills; - book signature presses; - book presses; - sheet folding machines; - book production lines for the production of hard cover books; - back rounding and pressing machines; - backlining and head banding machines; - casing-in machines; - book cover crease forming machines. - paper converting machines: - machines for the production of envelopes; - machines for the production of sanitary items; - inserting machines; - counter-stackers; - paper embossing machines. - paper finishing machines: - coaters; - laminators. The specific requirements in EN 1010-4 take precedence over respective requirements in EN 1010-1:2004+A1. This document does not deal with risks generated by noise emitted from the machines. These issues are covered basically in EN 1010-1:2004+A1. However, there are requirements for noise reduction for sheet folding machines and machines for the production of envelopes and sanitary items. With respect to the previous edition of EN 1010-4:2004, the following changes have been made: a) an informative Annex ZB on the relationship between this European Standard and the Essential Requirements of EU Directive 2006/42/EC has been added, so it can be presumed that within the limits of the scope of this standard the relevant essential requirements of EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC are met through the normative clauses of this standard. The necessary adaptations which are a result of the changed requirements of the new Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC are contained in EN 1010-1:2004+A1:2010. Application: for machine designers.
