Overview

This standard specifies the design, main dimensions and components for non-electric navigation lights (kerosene lamps). Non-electric navigation lights according to this standard are used when electric navigation lights are not desired or cannot be used (traditional ships, ships without electrical systems). Navigation lights according to this standard comply with the legal requirements that apply to them, which are essentially based on the applicable contents of the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea, COLREG 72, of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The first draft of DIN 89950:2014-07 contained references to three product standards that have since been withdrawn. Since the product standards are required for the application of DIN 89950, it was decided to incorporate all three into this standard as normative annexes A, B and C and to issue a second draft for this purpose.
