DIN 81859 "Stud link anchor chain cables, grade K4 - Lashing links" documents the grade K4 lashing link for stud link anchor chain cables. As a general rule, the anchor of ships shall be fixed by means of an anchor lashing (lashing links). The lashing link shall not be the first or the last link within the stud link anchor chain. With the anchor raised, the lashing link shall be located on deck and be accessible; a so-called chain outboard shot shall be used for the arrangement of the lashing link. The lashing links absorb the lashing forces applied to the anchor chain cable. The dimensions, masses, materials, tests, breaking forces and Technical Specifications of the lashing links to be used are specified. Annex A specifies the basis of calculation for the diameter, pitch, width and mass. This standard has been prepared at Working Committee NA 132-01-05 AA "Heben, Schleppen, Ankern" ("Heaving, towing, anchoring") in collaboration with the Round steel link chains Standards Committee (NRK) at DIN.
