DIN 68800-3:2012-02

This standard specifies measures for preventative protection of wood and wood-based panels with wood preservatives. It applies in connection with DIN 68800-1. This standard also regulates the use of preventatively protected wood and wood-based panel products with CE marking. The regulations of the standard involving measures for preventive protection with wood preservatives need not be taken into account during the manufacture of preventatively protected wood and wood-based panel products according to harmonized standards. The standard contains in 8.2 special requirements for the protection of load-bearing timber structures and in 8.3 requirements for the protection of non-load bearing timber. In Annex C information for the use of wood preservatives for non-load bearing timber structures are given which are intended to be subsequently coated. Other standards apply for impregnation of sleepers with creosote and for impregnation of electricity poles. The standard replaces DIN 68800-3:1990-04 and DIN 68800-5:1978-05. In this process, a division was made between planning of measures for wood protection and requirements for the executing person as well as a separation of performance of protective measures and field of application. Definition of use classes has been adopted from DIN EN 335-1. For protection of load-bearing and non-load bearing timber components, various requirements and different penetration depth classes have been specified. Regulations have been incorporated for use of preventively protected wood and wood-based panel products with CE marking. The preventive chemical protection of wood products from DIN 68800-5 has been integrated as normative Annex A. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 042-03-03 AA "Vorbeugender chemischer Holzschutz" ("Preventative chemical wood protection") at DIN.
