The standard deals with the image quality of non-transparent prints of dental X-ray pictures. With this, a bridge between digital and analogue X-ray technology shall be achieved. It is specified in § 28 of the X-ray Ordinance that X-ray pictures which are stored on electronic data media shall be accessible to the doctor or dentist (or the dentistry site) who is also responsible for consulting or for further treatment in an individually suitable form. Thus, it shall be ensured that these data conform to the original data and the pictures developed from these are appropriate for medical diagnosis. As a result of the technical development of printers, it is possible for X-ray pictures to be printed on paper and passed on for medical diagnosis. This standard ensures that the printed X-ray pictures are suitable for medical diagnosis at the time of printing and that they are suitable for this purpose at the time of medical diagnosis. This standard specifies quality requirements for prints of dental radiographs on non-transparent media intended for medical diagnosis. It does not describe quality requirements for the printer but ensures the quality of the print result. This standard has been prepared jointly by Working Committee NA 014-00-08 AA "Röntgendiagnostik" ("Radiological diagnostics") of the Dentistry Standards Committee (NADENT) and Working Committee NA 080-00-06 AA "Bildgebende Systeme" ("Imaging systems") of the Radiology Standards Committee (NAR).
