This standard has been prepared by NA 012-00-04 GA "Gemeinschaftsarbeitsausschuss FNCA/NAL: Getränkeschankanlagen" ("Joint Working Committee FNCA/NAL: Beverage dispensing systems"), which is formed by the Chemical Apparatus Standards Committee (FNCA) and the Food and Agricultural Products Standards Committee (NAL). The standardization work has been aligned within Working Committee NA 057-02-01 AA "Lebensmittelhygiene" ("Food hygiene") at NAL. The preparation of this standard took place with the cooperation of Working Group "Getränkeschankanlagen" ("Beverage dispensing systems") of the BGN, the Berufsgenossenschaft Nahrungsmittel und Gaststätten (German Professional Association Foodstuffs and catering). This standard specifies requirements for beverage containers which are operated at an allowable operating pressure of up to 4 bar and which have a nominal volume of up to 60 litres, as well as the associated test methods. The containers standardized in this document are used as disposal packs (so-called disposable kegs) in beverage dispensing systems. They consist of several parts, for example, top side, cylinder jacket, bottom side, which are connected by an appropriate method. The requirements for the material and the type of beverage containers as well as the standard designation of these products are standardized. The requirement for indication of the designation given in the clause on the marking of the containers shall be emphasized. This facilitates the recyclability of the materials of these disposable products and thus environmental awareness is accounted for. The hygiene requirements for the containers aimed at ensuring that storage of the beverage (for example, beer) or basic material (for example, lemonade syrup) has no negative effect on its quality (taste, odour, appearance, and not least, microbial quality) are an important matter in the standard. Moreover, detailed technical safety requirements are specified regarding the resistance to pressure, form stability and bursting strength of the disposable kegs, and the associated test methods. The requirement for reduction of overpressure after emptying which has been incorporated into this new edition for the first time shall be emphasized. This is intended to prevent accidents with the empty disposal pack after its use.
