This standard specifies the commercially available dimensions for fine tolerance hoist chains; Grade T (types T, DAT and DT), which comply with the requirements of DIN EN 818-7.
Fine tolerance hoist chains, Grade T (types T, DAT and DT) for manual and power driven hoists to be constructed have been specified in EN 818-7 since 2002. As the member countries in CEN/TC 168/WG 1 "Welded round steel link chains and chain slings" could not reach an agreement regarding the tolerances of the pitch (1×pn) and gauge length (11×pn) during the preparation of EN 818-7, only tolerance ranges are given in the European Standard. Since the establishment of DIN 5684-3 (1954-05), there were always tolerances both for the pitch and the gauge length, however. For this reason they are also given in this standard. The corresponding calculation basis is given in Annex A. Should, during addition of the associated tolerances, higher values occur for the individual nominal sizes than specified for the entire tolerance range of the corresponding nominal size specified in DIN 818-7, these are deviations due to the specified rounding rules. Hoist chains according to this standard correspond with EN 818-7, as both calculation methods are based on the same tolerance formula. Regarding the nominal link pitch of fine tolerance hoist chains, Grade T, there is a variety of type chains in Europe due to the constructional specifications of the hoist chain manufacturers. Therefore it only made sense on the European level to specify the selected dimensions for nominal pitch in EN 818-7 which were based on corresponding ISO standards. By taking into account the market situation in Germany, the traditional nominal link pitches of DIN 5684-3, which are not part of the selected dimensions of EN 818-7, are therefore indicated again.
This standard has been prepared by NA 085-00-04 AA "Hebezeugketten" ("Lifting chains") of the Round Steel Link Chains Standards Committee (NRK) at DIN, the German Institute for Standardization e. V. For further information about the NRK, visit us on the Internet under www.nrk.din.de. A summery of the standards of the NRK (status 2010) is contained in DIN pocket book 392 "Rundstahlketten" ("Round steel link chains"). Available by email at info@dinmedia.de.
