This Part 3 of the series of standards specifies the determination of total carbon, total oxygen and total nitrogen as major, minor and trace constituents as well as free carbon in B4C and the determination of mass loss, given as loss on drying of amorphous boron. This Part 3 of the series of standards applies to boron carbide, presented as coarse raw material, granules or powder, as well as sintered and shaped boron carbide, amorphous boron and boron nitride in various degrees of purity as powder or shaped or hot-pressed bodies for the purpose of determining the various chemical constituents. This document also applies to the metal borides aluminum boride, calcium boride, chromium boride, lanthanum boride, molybdenum boride, titanium boride and zirconium boride, as well as other metal borides after substance-specific testing. This document has been prepared by Working Committee NA 062-02-64 AA "Chemische Analyse von nichtoxidischen keramischen Roh- und Werkstoffen" ("Chemical analysis of non-oxidic ceramic raw and basic materials") at DIN Standards Committee Materials Testing (NMP).
