Overview

This standard has been prepared by Working Committee NA 062-06-61 AA "Prüfung von Schmierölen, sonstigen Ölen und Paraffinen" ("Testing of lubricating oils, other oils and Paraffin") of the Standards Committee Materials Testing (NMP) at DIN. This standard specifies a method for determining the characteristic values of lubricants containing active ingredients intended to allow high surface pressures in the mixed friction area between surfaces moved relative to one another. This method does not allow direct evaluation of the behaviour of those lubricants in elements of machinery. DIN 51350-6 gives information on the shear stability of lubricants containing polymers. Methods complying with this standard are applicable to lubricants containing active ingredients for high surface pressures (so-called EP lubricants). The testing of lubricants which generate friction vibrations in the test apparatus is not recommended.
