Overview

This standard specifies a uniform form for provision of instructions for the consignment of goods, primarily in land transport. A supplier/consignor or consignee can give these instructions to a forwarder. The form is usually created by a supplier/consignor, is supplemented by the forwarder, if necessary, and handed over to the consignee on receipt of goods. The form is intended to facilitate the communication between the business partners and rationalize the consignment of goods through the application of a uniform terminology. This revision of DIN 5018 has become necessary as according to the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR, 2011) information regarding the tunnel restriction code is mandatory. This code regulates, together with the tunnel category, which dangerous goods are permitted to pass a tunnel. The standard has been prepared by the Information Technology and selected IT Applications Standards Committee (NIA), Working Committee "Elektronisches Geschäftswesen" ("Electronic business"). NIA is responsible for normative specifications in the application area of electronic data exchange (EDI), in a broader sense also of electronic commerce, amongst others.
