This standard applies to manually operated piston type gate valves of special design, gate valves and diaphragm valves with nominal diameters of up to and including DN 100, PN 10, which are installed in drinking water supply systems according to DIN 1988 and DIN EN 806. This standard applies to stop-valves which are, as well as the valves specified in DIN EN 1213, common on the German market. Stop-valves for tapping valves are specified in the DVGW-Arbeitsblatt (Code of practice) W336 "Wasserbohrarmaturen; Anforderungen und Prüfungen" ("Tapping valves for drinking water; requirements and tests"). This standard specifies general requirements, for example, for impermeability, resistance against internal pressure, hydraulic behaviour and mechanical behaviour, which fittings with pressure-bearing housings made from metallic materials intended for domestic water supply shall meet, as well as for the test methods which allow for checking the requirements. The dimensions of the fittings for domestic water supply and further requirements for various types are specified in separate standards. Additional or different requirements for individual types of manually operated piston type gate valves, gate valves and diaphragm valves may be specified in the corresponding product standards. The standard DIN 3546-1 has been prepared by Working Committee NA 003-02-02 AA "Armaturen für die Trinkwasserinstallation in Gebäuden" ("Valves for potable water supply in buildings") of the Valves Standards Committee (NAA). It has been prepared in collaboration with the DVGW Deutscher Verein des Gas- und Wasserfachs e. V. (German Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water) and has been included as a technical rule of the DVGW into the code of practice Water of the DVGW.
This document replaces DIN 3546-1:2002-10 .
