This standard specifies the fatigue strength tests with the following objectives: a) testing of single-point specimens to evaluate materials; b) testing of multi-point specimens to evaluate components or the overall structure; c) determination of the influence of the joining methods and their execution on the test results; d) determination of the influence of the type of loading on the test results; e) determination of the influence of the environment on the test results. This standard specifies the specimens and procedures for performing fatigue strength tests with constant force amplitude, for specimens with single or multiple joints, in the joint thickness range from 0,5 mm to 5 mm. Depending on the specimens used, it is possible to evaluate the fatigue strength behavior of joints under shear force, peel force, head tensile force and their combinations from the results. The results of the fatigue strength tests, which are obtained with component-like specimens, are suitable for deriving criteria for the selection of materials and thickness combinations for overall structures and components that are exposed to cyclic loading. This statement is particularly relevant for results obtained with specimens with boundary conditions, namely a local stiffness similar to that of the component/total structure in question. The results of a fatigue strength test are only suitable for direct application to the structure if the load conditions during operation and the stiffness of the structure in the joining area are comparable. This standard has been prepared by Working Committee NA 092-00-23 AA "Mechanisches Fügen (DVS V 10.8)" ("Mechanical joining (DVS V 10.8)") at DIN Standards Committee Welding and allied processes (NAS).
