This standard exclusively applies for refilled inkjet print heads and inkjet tanks. During the application of DIN 33871-1:2012 it was noted that test equipment for the testing of recycled inkjet print heads and inkjet tanks for use in older printers is no longer available on the market in sufficient quantities. Consequently, it has been decided to revise DIN 33871-1:2012 and to include the following modifications: a) limitation of the scope for test methods; b) addition of form C as user software on the attached CD-ROM; c) update of the normative references. The test methods apply for defined inkjet print heads and inkjet tanks in inkjet printers which were placed on the market for the first time after 2011-12-31. The test methods described in DIN 33871-1:2003-10 still apply for inkjet print heads and inkjet tanks which are exclusively used in printers which were placed on the market before that date. The validity has been restricted to ensure that inkjet print heads and inkjet tanks for older printers which are no longer available for tests in sufficient quantities can be further marked accordingly. Consequently, restricting the validity only replies to the test method. All other requirements remain unaffected. Compared to DIN 33871-1:2012, no further modifications have been made. It specifies the principles for recycling as well as testing of colour rendition quality and yield, such as in DIN 33871-1:2012. The aim of the standard is to achieve constant print quality with black or coloured ink of the refillable inkjet print heads and inkjet tanks. Users of this standard are companies which recycle original inkjet print heads and inkjet tanks and place them on the market again in accordance with the requirements of the standard, including the tests. These recycled products in accordance with DIN 33871-1 are inexpensive alternatives to original ink cartridges (inkjet print heads and inkjet tanks). The marking obligation on the inkjet print head or inkjet tank and the packaging allows the user to compare original products recycled in accordance with DIN 33871-1 with regard to their yield and print quality. With the recycling of used original printing modules, resources are preserved and supplied to the production cycle several times. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 043-01-28 AA "Bürogeräte" ("Office equipment") at DIN.
This document replaces DIN 33871-1:2012-05 .
