Wear, failures and other damage influence the operational safety of railway vehicles. Depending on the wear characteristics, application parameters and the current state of the railway vehicles and the cost effectiveness, a maintenance system shall be specified by which it is ensured that the necessary technical target state is maintained and that the necessary and confirmed measuring and testing equipment or measuring devices and test procedures are used. The standards of the entire "State of railway vehicles" contained technical specifications for safety-relevant systems and components of standard gauge railway vehicles in need of supervision (standard gauge vehicles according to DIN 25003). This standard DIN 27201-9 "State of railway vehicles - Basic principles and production technology - Part 9: Measuring" applies to the measurement of railway vehicles and their components and serves to verify compliance with metrological product specifications. For measurements which are to be carried out according to the stipulations in the legally regulated area, the respective applicable laws in the current version, such as the weight and measures act ('Eichgesetz'), shall apply. The standards of the 'State of the railway vehicle' as a whole define the limit state for the safe operation of railway vehicles for normal track width and their components. They shall be applied where the vehicles are operated on a public railway infrastructure. The minimum requirements laid down in the standards for the processes for observing the desired condition of the railway vehicles are also to be applied. In addition, the standards shall also be observed in the new design if constructive precautions are to be taken to comply with the operating limit criteria. The structural design for a maintenance-friendly check of the operating limits shall be considered. The applicability of the standards of the complete vehicle to railway vehicles of other track widths and their components shall be examined in each case. The standards of the entire "State of railway vehicles" represent a uniform and system-compatible normative work that specifies regulations for the operation and maintenance of standard gauge railroad vehicles. All of the standards of the complete work are listed in DIN 27200 Supplement 1. DIN 27201 "State of railroad vehicles - Basic principles and production technologies" consists of: - Part 1: State of railway vehicles - Basic principles and production technology - Part 1: Procedures for preparation and modification of maintenance programmes; - Part 2: Proof of maintenance; - Part 3: Test run; - Part 4: Treatment of railway vehicles following hazardous incidents; - Part 5: Assessment parameters and requirements of the distribution of wheel forces and vertical wheelset forces of railway vehicles - Procedure for checking and settings; - Part 6: Welding; - Part 7: Non-destructive testing (NDT); - Part 8: remains open; - Part 9: Measuring; - Part 10: Thermal spraying; - Part 11: Procedure for preparation of fault tolerance concept; - Part 12: Mandatory supervision equipments permanently installed in railway vehicles; This standard DIN 27201-9 "State of railway vehicles - Basic principles and production technology - Part 9: Measuring" has been prepared by Subcommittee NA 087-00-15-01 UA "Grundlagen und Fertigungstechnologien" ("Terms and definitions for the reliable state of railway vehicles") of Working Committee NA 087-00-15 AA "Zustand der Eisenbahnfahrzeuge" ("State of railway vehicles") at the DIN Standards Committee Railway (FSF) in coordination with other Working Committees of FSF and of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) and contains safety specifications. The standard differs from DIN 27201-9:2006-10 as follows: a) adaptation of the foreword; b) revision of the normative references; c) revision of Clause 7, Metrological confirmation for intended use; d) revision of 8.5, Test and calibration laboratory; e) revision of Annex A and the bibliography; f) editorial revisions.
