Due to the equipment and environment a high danger potential is present in the extensive installations of underground mining. Along with the expanse, the small number of access paths also necessitates the provision of first aid material for primary care of the injured in underground operations. The first aid boxes used for providing the first aid material can be made of hard material (for instance, metal, plastic) or soft material (for instance, fabric reinforced film) and shall primarily protect first aid material from mechanical damage, dust and moisture. The materials of the first aid boxes shall not influence the first aid material and shall correspond with the provisions applicable to the use of materials in the field of mining. Nevertheless, a first aid box filled with first aid material shall be capable of being carried to the accident site by one person, shall not have any sharp edges, be sealable and easy to open without use of a tool. For first aid boxes made of soft material, the requirements according to DIN 21612, quality class A shall also be fulfilled at minimum. Additionally, the first aid material used shall correspond with the provisions applicable to the use of materials in the field of mining; it shall also correspond with the requirements resulting from the environmental conditions in terms of scope and execution. The standard has been prepared by Working Committee NA 008-07-01 "Persönliche Sicherheits- und Schutzausrüstung" ("Personal safety and protection equipment") of FABERG.
