This standard specifies rules for all types of methods for assessment of preparation equipment and processes effecting size reduction or dissociation during preparation of hard coal. Preparation according to this standard shall be understood as every technological processing of hard coal starting from its extraction to the manufacture of end products within the mine area. Regarding the preparation of hard coal a distinction is made between involuntary and deliberate breakage. Deliberate breakage serves for limitation of the maximum particle size to the size the downstream preparation equipment requires, for dissociation of frozen coal, for example, of intermediate products, for further sorting, as well as of manufacture of particle-size distribution of finished products required for use. Involuntary breakage occurs in cases when the material is moved, that is, when it skids or impacts. These are in particular conveying processes during bunkering, storage, classification, sorting, dewatering and on transfer points of conveying means (shipment). The standard has been prepared by Working Committee NA 008-08-01 AA "Rohstoffuntersuchungen/Steinkohlenaufbereitung" ("Investigations of raw material/coal preparation") of the Mining Standards Committee (FABERG).
