The standard specifies requirements for the execution of the steel structures of large opencast mining equipment. This ensures a sufficient level of static load-bearing capacity and stability, serviceability and durability of the equipment. The standard has been considerably extended and follows DIN EN 1090-2 in its structure. The requirements for the execution of steel structures generally depend on their execution class. The requirements for the weld seam quality and the scope of testing are independent of the execution class of the components. The rules on the acceptance criteria and the scope of testing of welded joints as well as the designation of the joint types deviate from DIN EN 1090-2 and are completely regulated in the standard. The standard is based on DIN EN ISO 5817 with regard to the non-destructive testing of welded joints and the evaluation of the findings and takes into account its requirements. Application of the standard to the load-bearing steel structure requires the introduction of independent quality levels due to the complexity of the effects in the case of large open-cast mining equipment as well as with regard to fatigue strength compared to DIN EN ISO 5817. These quality levels are designated with numbers from 0 to 3. This system has been introduced in the large equipment construction industry since 1982. The quality levels 1 to 3 correspond as far as possible to the quality levels B to D specified in DIN EN ISO 5817. The standard has been prepared by Working Committee NA 008-10-01 AA "Bagger, Absetzer und Zusatzgeräte in Braunkohlentagebauen" ("Excavators, spreaders and auxiliary equipment in opencase lignite mines") of FABERG.
