The standard applies to the construction, commissioning and periodic testing of equipment for extraction and conveyance processes in opencase lignite mines. Equipment is excavators, spreaders and auxiliary equipment with an operating mass from 200 t, auxiliary equipment only in so far as they are moveable on their own running gear. Floating excavators are excluded from the scope. Particular requirements are applicable for large-scale equipment. Included are: a) bucket wheel excavators with a bucket volume of more than 800 l or a service weight of more than 1 000 t or a feed of the bucket-wheel jib of more than 15 m, b) bucket-chain excavators with a bucket volume of more than 800 l or a service weight of more than 1 000 t, c) spreaders with a service weight of more than 800 t or a boom length of more than 50 m as well as d) auxiliary equipment which correspond to the size or service weight of the previously listed equipment. The standard contains requirements for the supporting structure, welding work, ropes, safety, locking devices and guards as well as for the construction and commissioning of opencase mining equipment. The essential element of the safety concept for equipment is the periodic testing, which is specified in detail for each component.
