Belt conveyor systems are mainly used in the field of underground mining for the transport of lumpy bulk materials. For use in main haulage roads with high transport volumes and high transport speeds as well as for transportation of persons in the upper and lower strands, the heavy constructions dealt with in the standard are used because of their stability reserves. During this revision, the technically advanced construction undergoes further technical development by recording components and dimensional changes for operation of deep troughed conveyor belts. The cross-section of the bulk materials for a troughed belt conveyor consists of the "water cross-section" and the overlying embankment cross-section. The shape of the embankment is dependent, amongst others, on the characteristics of the conveyed materials (for instance, lumpiness, internal friction, friction coefficient between conveyor belt and conveyed material) as well as the operating conditions of the belt conveyer. The newly recorded components for larger troughing angles and the adaptation in existing conveyor systems represent the first constructive step towards an increase in the feedrate. This standard has been prepared by Working Committee NA 008-05-04 AA "Gurtförderer-Traggerüste" ("Belt-conveyor constructions") at the Mining Standards Committee (FABERG).
