The standard DIN 22101 applies to belt conveyors for loose bulk materials and contains the design principles forming the basis for requirements applicable to major belt conveyor components such as drives, brakes and take-up devices.
About this standard
The standard also gives a description of the design and dimensioning of the conveyor belt.
In addition, the standard contains two Annexes containing important supplementary information: Annex A includes six pages of notes relating to specific clauses of the standard, while Annex B explains the relationship of this standard to International Standards on conveyor belts ISO 5048:1989, ISO/DIS 3870:1996, ISO 5293:1981 and ISO 3684:1990.
The background
After a 40-year validity, the standard was significantly revised and expanded as DIN 22101:1982-02, of which an official English-language version was also available. The third edition, published in 2002-08 but not translated into English, had some formal and substantial shortcomings that have been corrected in this edition.
Due to the complexity of the subject matter, the working group developing the standard recommend that computerized calculations should be used where possible. Nevertheless, the standard refers to simplified calculation methods wherever feasible (i.e. where there are no stringent accuracy requirements).
This document replaces DIN 22101:2002-08 .
