This standard specifies the main dimensions for standardized and non-standardized taps and cold forming taps, long type, intended for producing threads with nominal diameters from over 0,90 mm up to 113,00 mm. The general plan includes for certain ranges of nominal diameters - depending on the pitch, number of ridges and total length/maximum thread length - two types of shank designs: reinforced shank (see, for example, DIN 371) and stepped shaft (see, for example, DIN 376). This standard has been prepared by the Tools and Clamping Devices Standards Committee (FWS) at DIN, Working Committee NA 121-01-04 AA "Gewindebohrer und Schneideisen" ("Taps and dies"). DIN 2184 "Taps and cold forming taps" consists of Part 1: Long type; General plan of dimensions and Part 2: Short type; General plan of dimensions.
This document replaces DIN 2184-1:2003-12 .
