The products manufactured in accordance with the harmonized part of DIN EN 771-1 receive CE marking and can therefore be freely traded within the scope of the Construction Products Directive or Construction Products Regulation. The member countries are still responsible for the rules on the use of these products, however. The use of CE-marked products can be regulated in the Federal Republic of Germany by application standards in coordination with the Bauministerkonferenz der Länder (Conference of the Ministers of Building). This document indicates how the information from the CE marking shall be used with regard to the technical rules for planning, design and construction of structures and their parts. The basis for assessment is only formed by those criteria and characteristics given in DIN EN 771-1:2011-07, Annex ZA. The given clauses meet the requirements of the mandate given on the basis of the EC Construction Products Directive (89/106/EEC). Compliance with the characteristics given in Annex ZA qualifies a presumption of fitness of the construction products covered by DIN EN 771-1 for the intended uses and meets the conditions of the CE marking. The application standard contains conversion rules used to calculate the rated values applicable in Germany from the declared values of the harmonized European product standard. The application standard specifies rules for classification and assignment of declared values into levels and classes which shall be taken into account for application purposes. If the harmonized European Standard covers various classes or levels for individual product characteristics, the application standard indicates the level or class for the respective application. This document applies for the use of category I LD units and HD units in accordance with DIN EN 771-1 for masonry for which requirements with respect to thermal insulation, airborne sound insulation and resistance to fire may be specified. This standard does not apply in particular for: - clay masonry units for concrete or mortar infill; - ceramic clinker bricks; - high precision clay masonry units for thin layer masonry; - high-precision clinker bricks for thin layer masonry; - barrier layer bricks as water-proofing in accordance with DIN 18195-4 and DIN 18195-5. The committee responsible for this document is NA 005-06-13 AA "Mauerziegel" ("Clay masonry units") at DIN.
