Overview

This standard specifies a method for determining the photocatalytic deposition velocity of nitrogen monoxide NO at photocatalytically active surfaces under artificial irradiation and thus characterizes photocatalytic surfaces with regard to their activity for breaking down atmospheric nitrogen monoxide when illuminated with electromagnetic radiation in the UV/A range. The photocatalytic deposition velocity is a component-related, material-inherent property of the tested surface. The photocatalytic resistance is calculated from this, which in turn represents an essential variable for dispersion calculations. Furthermore, the procedure allows the variable use of different flow-through reactor types and geometries. It is largely independent of the size of the measuring system, as long as the boundary conditions described herein are adhered to. The procedure is limited to samples and sample bodies that are not flowed through. It is suitable, for example, for determining the photocatalytic deposition velocity on surfaces coated with paint or plaster, as well as ceramics, concrete, etcetera. This document has been prepared by Working Committee NA 062-02-93 AA "Photokatalyse" ("Photocatalysis") at DIN Standards Committee Materials Testing (NMP).
