This standard, in conjunction with DIN 16917-1, applies to pipes made of thermoplastic materials with profiled walls and smooth pipe inside and made of the following materials: polyethylene (PE 80, PE 100 and PE-HD), polypropylene (PP), homopolymer and copolymer and unplasticized polyvinyl chloride (PVC-U), with a nominal diameter greater than 1 200 mm, intended for underground installation. It also applies to fittings manufactured from these pipes. This standard applies to pipes and fittings with profiled walls, both with plain ends and with moulded sockets, joined by means of elastomeric sealing ring joints or by heating element butt welding, extrusion welding or electrofusion welding. This standard specifies requirements (dimensions of pipes and fittings, for materials, pipe designs, for stiffness classes, application and tolerance classes), test methods and test parameters for large pipes and fittings (DN > 1 200) and gives recommendations for colouring. This standard has been prepared by Working Committee NA 054-05-04 AA "Profilierte Rohre aus thermoplastischen Kunststoffen mit glatter Innenwand" ("Thermoplastics pipes with profiled wall and smooth pipe inside") at DIN Standards Committee Plastics (FNK).
