This standard has been prepared by Working Committee NA 031-02-01 AA "Brandmelde- und Feueralarmanlagen" ("Fire detection and fire alarm systems") of FNFW. The aim of electrically controlled hold-open systems is to reliably hold self-closing fire/smoke doors in an opened state and to release them at the earliest possible time in the case of fire without, however, causing an alarm signal which is transferred to the fire department. Thus, the required function of the fire detectors differs from their normal use in fire alarm systems. With this standard the maintenance of hold-open systems should become unified and thus form a basis for operators and maintenance personnel for the maintenance of hold-open systems for fire and smoke door assemblies. By carrying out maintenance measures in accordance with the specifications of this standard it is ensured that hold-open systems with documented acceptance tests maintain their operational readiness over the total duration of use during intended use and operation. Documented acceptance tests are specified by building authorities for hold-open systems and are specified in the corresponding general authoritative building approval. This standard specifies requirements for the maintenance of electrically controlled hold-open systems for fire and smoke door assemblies in buildings. The standard provides recommendations for the verification of competence of specialist firms and persons which perform maintenance on hold-open systems for fire and/or smoke door assemblies. This standard does not apply to the maintenance of fire or smoke door assemblies themselves. This standard does not apply for the acceptance of hold-open systems for fire or smoke door assemblies required by building authorities.
