This standard is a pure terminology standard and meets the demand for uniform specifications, throughout Germany, of terms and definitions in the field of fire fighting. It contains 449 terms (including synonyms) which are divided into the following six main clauses: - 3.1 Fire event, extinguishing procedure, firefighting water supply; - 3.2 Execution of operations, operational tactics; - 3.3 Preventive fire protection; - 3.4 Fire-fighting equipment; - 3.5 Information and communication; - 3.6 Organization, management, manpower planning, time tables. The terms and definitions of this standard are intended for practical use in the field of fire fighting. They have been specified in as simple a way as possible, partially abstaining from scientific accuracy. Thus, for example, the definitions regarding the processes occurring during burning are limited to oxidations with oxygen. Furthermore, potentially explosive materials and materials with a tendency for self-decomposition are, for example, not dealt with in this standard. The standard is based on the former pre-standard DIN V 14011:2005-07, on which the following significant modifications have been carried out: a) general information to the effect that job titles are applicable to both female and male fire fighters have been included; b) terms and definitions have been restructured into clauses, partly revised and partly adapted to current or modified International and European standards; c) the following new terms have been added: rollover, equipment, ventilation, small pumping appliance, vehicle carrying tools and gears for logistic tasks, fireboat, helmet, smoke screen, integrated control centre, live fire training; d) the terms emergency fire alarm, master fire alarm (box), object-related fire alarm, group equivalent have completely been deleted; e) the document has been editorially revised. In addition to the terms and definitions, the standard also contains explanations regarding the relationship with Feuerwehr-Dienstvorschrift FwDV 100, the German fire service regulation 100, as well as an alphabetical index. The Committee responsible for this standard is NA 031-04-01 AA "Begriffe und Bildzeichen" ("Terms and pictograms") at DIN.
