Conversion and export of standards as required - Requirements-Management mit Standards

The digital handling of standards and parts from standards is becoming increasingly important in the industry. Discussions with standards users as well as manufacturers and distributors of software systems for product lifecycle management (PLM) and requirements management (RM) highlight the urgency of the automated import of standards into these systems. The import of standards into PLM and RM systems has so far been discussed in various talks with standards users.  An automated import of individual parts of standards or complete standards documents facilitates and improves handling within PLM and RM systems for users in several respects:

  • the simplified and therefore faster import of standards content
  • Identification and evaluation of relevant standard content (especially requirements) using metadata
  • Improved understanding of the relationships between standard content and the customer-specific requirements derived from it
  • Enabling the import of machine-readable complex data structures such as tables and formula content

The standard format ReqIF has become established for the exchange of requirements in requirements management systems. With ReqIF, companies are able to exchange requirements in a standardized data format with other companies that may use other PLM and RM systems.

Together with DIN, DIN-Software and external partners, DIN Media is working on a project to develop and implement a solution with which standard documents can be converted into ReqIF, taking customer-specific requirements into account, and made accessible via an easy-to-use web interface.

The solution is being extensively tested with standards users on the basis of the above-mentioned requirements and optimized in successive iterations so that DIN Media can complete a ReqIF converter solution with a basic range of functions.
