Overview

This Technical Report applies to machines complying with IEC 60349-2. The total losses of a converter-fed motor can be determined by summation of the component losses where the losses are derived from no-load tests and load tests. The total input power is the sum of the performance at fundamental frequency and performance at all other frequencies. In all practical cases, the aforementioned input power covers the losses which result from harmonics of the current and voltage of the converter feed; by means of suitable measuring equipment the losses can be derived from measurements of the total power input and output at fundamental frequency if the machine is operated under load. The responsible committee is Subcommittee UK 351.1 "Fahrzeuge" ("Rolling stock") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
