Short description
This standard is part of the revised and significantly expanded version of the standard VDI 3817 from February 2010 to the new series of standards VDI/WTA 3817. The series of standards provides users with practical working documents, decision-making aids, assessment and evaluation criteria as well as checklists for procedures appropriate to listed buildings when carrying out construction work in listed buildings and buildings worthy of preservation. This series of standards provides comprehensive recommendations for professional action in terms of monument preservation and construction technology and, at the same time, advice on how to avoid construction defects, planning errors or other mistakes. VDI/TWA 3817 Part 1 contains the monument preservation principles. It is therefore indispensable for the application of this standard. The standard shows how a balance of interests can be achieved between the original preservation of listed buildings on the one hand and the owner´s interest in a serviceable and fully usable building with modern building technology on the other. The aim is to install and operate state-of-the-art technologies in buildings worthy of preservation while at the same time preserving the historic fabric and cultural significance of the structure. Instructions, checklists and evaluation criteria are given for technical measures in the fields of sanitary engineering and media supply, heating and ventilation engineering, electrical engineering and lighting, safety engineering, materials handling, fire and lightning protection and building automation.
