Short description
Modular plants are used in process engineering, especially in the chemical, fine chemical, special chemical and pharmaceutical industries, to quickly develop a plant that can be used for industrial production. The focus here is on the time aspect, i.e. the rapid market readiness of the plant. Another application is the efficient integration of, for example, package units or logistics systems into existing plants or new plants. This essentially results in three application scenarios for modular plants: short time-to-market, fast time-to-repair, individual production of small batches. Modular process units, called PEAs, as defined in VDI 2776 Part 1, are used for this purpose. These self-contained PEAs can be interconnected with little effort to form complex overall systems. In the series of standards VDI/VDE/NAMUR 2658, use cases for the automation of PEAs and modular plants are considered and the requirements of PEAs, described in NE 148, are used. Therefore, the target group of the series of standards VDI/VDE/NAMUR 2658 is composed of different stakeholders: PEA manufacturers, tool manufacturers and PEA integrators.
