Overview

DIN SPEC 16599 describes the unique identification for applications of local and comprehensive traceability of objects (for example raw materials, products, containers) over the entire life cycle. Intermediate steps and refinements as well as features that can be used for end-to-end identification have been included. The recommendation is primarily intended to optimize existing processes without changing them in principle. Traceability systems are to be implemented on the basis of existing standard modules, thus closing a gap between technology and application. This specification is aimed at the application of ISO standards and industry specifications for automatic identification and data capture (Auto-ID) in various industries, which are supported by the majority of awarding bodies for "Company Identification Codes". The selection of AutoID technologies for their individual purpose is the responsibility of the user.
