Short description
X-ray filters are normally used for suppressing low-energy photons, in the soft X-ray range also for suppressing higher diffraction orders. Some X-ray sources are provided with a filter carousel for different options. X-ray tubes for medical applications are normally provided with integrated X-ray filters. In diffractometry X-ray filters are used for the quasi-monochromatisation of copper and molybdenum lines. The standard describes the operation and application of X-ray filters for the spectral filtering of X-rays. Their use for the selective suppression of spectral lines is explained. The most important filters are listed in a table. This standard is directed towards users, developers and producers of X-ray optical systems using X-ray filters to absorb X-rays on the transmission through materia to influence the spectral composition of the X-ray radiation.
