Short description
The test methods described in the guideline are primarily intended for the testing of buffered fibres. The test methodology and metrology are also applicable to cables. Only the test parameters (such as bend radius, drop weight) need then be adapted to the cable design under test. Guidance on selecting suitable test parameters for testing cables can be found in the pertinent standards concerning the testing of optical fibres (e.g. IEC 60794-1-1, IEC 60794-1-2). The transmitters and receivers used for testing on the basis of the methods described below shall fulfil the requirements specified in Part 1 (measurement transmitters and receivers) and Part 2 of this guideline. The guideline describes methods for the testing of mechanical and environmental characteristics.
