Short description
The guideline describes and standardises procedures for collecting plant samples in the field and for extracting DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) from these samples for further molecular-biological investigations, such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The aim is to detect the presence or absence of GMOs. The guideline gives precise instructions for handling plant material, from collecting the samples right up to storing them in the laboratory. It describes two standardised procedures for extracting nucleic acid from plant material; the CTAB method and extraction using silicium dioxide. The guideline is suitable for GMO monitoring and various other research investigations.
