Short description
Several statutory rules of European and national scale aim to avoid, to prevent, or to minimise the air pollution. Therefore, air quality targets are defined (see 2008/50/EC, Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG), Ordinance on Air Quality Standards and Emission Maximum Amounts (39. BImSchV)). This standard presents a method to consider and to assess air quality according to the before mentioned statutory rules with the help of charts in spatial planning. The use of this method enables a target-oriented, exact and comprehensible approach. Especially methods and requirements as well as approaches to develop charts with area-wide delineation of ambient air including the components "particulate matter" and "NO2" on the base of existing limit values. Suitable colour scales are specified. Emission inventories and results of dispersion modelling incorporating measured ambient air data are the fundamentals for establishing these charts. Annual mean data is used for the representation in the charts.
