Short description
The guideline describes a range-resolved determination of temperature as well as of wind velocity and wind direction with Radioacoustic Sounding Systems (RASS). RASS is suitable for a wide range of measurement tasks: combined measurement of temperature and wind profiles, e.g. for boundary layer examination, for analysis of strong discontinuities within temperature and wind profile (shears); recording of air mass changes, of foehn occurrences as well as detecting structures of boundary layers and turbulences. The following applications are particularly important: - production of data for numerical dispersion models, site approval certificates and environmental compatibility assessment - flight safety and aviation weather services including the quantitative determination even of extreme ground inversions - plant monitoring during regular and irregular operations - routine temperature profiling from aerological stations.
