Short description
This standard deals with the methods of oxidative gas scrubbing to reduce air-polluting gaseous substances and aerosols as well as odorous substances in waste-gas flows originating from industrial processes. The described method makes it possible to convert many air-polluting substances into less harmful compounds or compounds which can readily be precipitated. To purify waste gas, use is made of gas scrubbers in which the scrubbing medium is brought into contact with the gas components to be removed. The oxidising agents most commonly used in practice are listed in this standard. To maintain the local concentration gradient between the gas and liquid phases, the scrubbing liquid must therefore either be regenerated or replaced. In view of environmental protection criteria, absorbate treatment is to be considered to form an integral part of absorption processes for air pollution control. Furthermore, there are interactions between the waste gas cleaning process and the production process it serves, which have to be taken into account for optimum process design. Examples of plants which are in industrial use are described to provide a picture of the possible applications of oxidative gas scrubbing in the removal of air pollutants from the waste gases of various processes. In addition, the individual gas purification methods and their method of operation are described using a standard format and flowcharts. This standard is only valid in conjunction with VDI 3679 Part 1 and Part 2.
