Short description
Warehouse management refers to the management, control and optimisation of warehouse- and distribution-systems within the warehouse (including quantity- and location-management as well as transportation management and disposition), with extensive methods and means for monitoring and controlling the states of the system and with choices of strategies for operating and optimisation. The purpose of a warehouse management system (WMS) is the management and optimisation of the internal systems for storage and transportation. To provide the WMS, it is necessary that the subordinate systems provide throughput, data quality and stability. The standard describes task and performance areas of an IT system for warehouse management. The terms and abbreviations are defined, the administrative and functional environment is described and the integration of a warehouse management system (WMS) in lower- and upper-level IT systems is explained.
