Short description
The standard deals with typical characteristics of modern coatings from carbon, which are deposited with the procedures of chemical or physical vapour deposition (CVD or PVD). Focal point is a classification of all carbon films, which organizes the different film types on the basis of their physical and chemical properties. The standard includes a uniform classification and nomenclature especially for amorphous carbon films (DLC) and diamond films. This allows the potential user of coated workpieces and tools to pre-select suitable carbon film types. A characterizing part refers to the important properties of the individual film types that are manufactured industrially today.
