Short description
The standard describes in detail the slaughtering process in slaughterhouses for cattle, pigs and poultry including pre- and post-processing. The emissions into the ambient air, which arise during these processes, and their appropriate emission control measures are pointed out. Information about the subsequent process steps after the slaughtering (e.g. deboning) are not included. The standard can also be applied to the slaughtering of ruminants (e.g. sheep), but not for the slaughtering of horses. The standard can also be applied to the assessment of the environmental impact of slaughterhouses, which slaughter small ruminants (e.g. sheep, but not horses) or which do not require an approval according to the regulation of the 4. BImSchV (German law). It completes and substantiates the requirements by the German legislation according to BImSchG and TA Luft concerning the above mentioned plants. Furthermore, it is a useful source of information for the review process of the BREF "Slaughterhouses and Animals By-products Industries".
