Short description
The standard describes seven best practise digestion variants for the determination of elements in airborne dust or in deposition. Used are open methods with hydrofluoric acid respectively with hydrofluoric acid and perchloric acid as well as different microwave assisted digestions. In parallel measurements the efficiency of the different digestion variants for determination of the different elements were tested by using certified reference materials (CRM) and also deposited quartz fibre filters. The digestion solutions can be analysed depending on matrix and element concentration with graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS), inductively coupled optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) and/or inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). The used measurement methods and analysis techniques are described in detail in standard VDI 2267 Part 1. All described digestion variants give comparable results for the determination of Arsenic, Cadmium, Lead and Nickel in PM10 particulates according to DIN EN 14902.
